Stroboscopic training is a style of training that can help enhance sensory skills. The VIMA REVs incorporate stroboscopic lenses to improve sensory and sensory-motor skills. It does this by taking away varying amounts of visual information, forcing an athlete to be more efficient with the limited, decision-making information that he or she is provided. The brain is trained, through the eyes, to capture relevant stimuli faster and process it quicker which improves reaction time. Capturing relevant stimuli, while ignoring irrelevant stimuli, improves focus and allows the brain to operate at its most efficient. This powerful tool forces an athlete to, “keep their eyes on the ball” and ultimately, “slows the game down.”
With certain skills, you may notice improvement in as little as 10-15 minutes of training. As a general guide, on-field improvement should be achieved in no more than three weeks.
We recommend training for 10-20 minutes a day, 3 times a week in order to see a noticeable difference in performance. You can choose to train everyday if you like. Continue to challenge the brain and it will adapt. Don’t forget to do drills isolating the non-dominant eye by blocking out the dominant eye in the single eye mode.
It varies from athlete to athlete. Some athletes may experience a decrease in skill and success, while others may maintain their performance gains. It is suggested that you continue to train 2 or more times per week to maintain a high level of visual acuity.
Vision is the guiding sense for most human performance. Vision has most often been taken for granted by athletes, parents, coaches and trainers. But awareness of vision as a key component to performance is growing.
Vision goes far beyond visual clarity ( 20/20), which is termed “sight.” Visual information of the world around us is transmitted from the eyes to the brain through approximately 2.2 million nerve fibers. After processing visual and other sensory information, decisions are made resulting in a visually guided motor response. I.e. jumping, catching, hitting or shooting. Simply stated, our visual system strengthens the “where” ( location) and “when” ( timing) of human performance.
Of the 2.2 million nerve fibers leading from the eyes to the brain, nearly 10% go to non-sight areas, mostly affecting balance and stability. Decades of research has shown that
(1) athletes “see” differently than non-athletes,
( 2) visual performance varies by sport and even by position, and
( 3) visual skills are trainable to influence sport performance.
Stroboscopic training is based on numerous published, peer-reviewed studies. These studies have been conducted by some of the country’s most respected institutions. Please click on the STUDIES link to learn more.
See product pages for specific feature call-outs. Impact-resistance and ballistic rating, unique flicker rates, custom-tinted lenses and sealed, water-resistant components (excessive moisture from sweating can disable the STROBES) are all unique to the STROBE system.
To use the VIMA REV, you don’t have to see an eye doctor first. For optimal training benefits though, visual clarity should be addressed. In that case, please find a doctor who is trained to address the higher visual and environmental demands of athletes and their activity.
All of the settings on the STROBES are slower than the range of seizure-inducing flicker rates; however, you should not use the STROBES if you are susceptible to seizures.
Due to the disruptive nature on visual perception, occasionally individuals will experience subtle symptoms of motion sickness. You should stop stroboscopic training when such symptoms are first experienced. By training shorter durations, more frequently, these symptoms often dissipate by desensitizing the visual system. Once this happens, you’ll be able to lengthen training sessions.
You should expect 8+ hours of battery life from a full charge when used at the lowest occlusion level. The higher levels of occlusions will use more of the battery just like a mobile phone when it uses the highest level of brightness.
The VIMA REVs are one size fits all. The strap can be adjusted to fit any head size, and the bayonet temples can bend and flex as needed to fit.
The VIMA REV product is warranted to be free of defects in materials or workmanship, under normal use, for a period of ONE YEAR from the date of purchase.
